Raccoon

Raccoons are one of the best-known nuisances in the Houston, Texas area, but they live all across the United States. In urban areas, raccoons have been pushed out of forests and woods and into human habitats. Interestingly, raccoons have adapted to this new life very rapidly, learning how to break into homes, eat human food and more. Here’s what you need to know:

What Are Raccoons?

Raccoons are small animals, usually between the size of a cat and a dog. They are easily recognized by the white mask across their face and their ringed tails. Most homeowners catch raccoons digging in the garbage or walking down the street at night. However, homeowners may be in for a surprise if they discover a raccoon nest inside their home.

How to Tell if Your Home is Infested?

Raccoons are very messy animals. They can be quite destructive when it comes to building their nest, chewing through walls and wires, tearing up paper or blankets, and spilling food all over. They can also be quite noisy in their nightly exploits, so you are likely to hear them coming and going from your home if you are paying attention.

Do Raccoons Carry Diseases?

The biggest threat posed by raccoons is the destruction of property, but they are common carriers of rabies. Raccoons can also be quite violent when backed into a corner and have been known to bite other animals. Aside from rabies, raccoons are not known for carrying many other diseases.

How to Get Rid of Raccoons

If you suspect that you have a family of raccoons in the house, the best thing to do is call for raccoon relocation in Houston. The earliest signs of a raccoon infestation are enough to warrant a call for raccoon pest control before the animals begin breeding. Once the call is made, a pest control specialist will come to your home, identify the entry point used by the animals, and set up a trap with bait to catch them. The trap is generally left for a couple of days and then reinspected to determine if the animal was caught. When caught, the animals are relocated out to a more natural habitat away from humans. This process does not require any chemical treatments that could harm family pets.

Hartz Pest Control has been serving the Houston, Texas area for many years with animal relocation and pest control services. If you have seen signs of pests in your home, now is the time to call.
