4 Ways To Combat Plant-Destroying Bugs (continued)

Gardening can be a source of relaxation and stress relief. However, when pests invade your sanctuary, that stress relief becomes an area of anxiety. There is no magical product or way to keep pests out of your garden, but you can reduce the invite you give pests to make it their home.

What can you do to ensure that your garden is free of pests?

Ensure Plants Have Space – It’s tempting to put multiple plants into one pot, but they need space to allow for air circulation. Air circulation reduces the chance of insects to find shelter.

Water Early In The Day – When your plants are well-hydrated, it reduces the chances of pests wanting to eat them. Watering early in the morning gives your plant all the water it needs in the day, even when the sun is shining bright, and it’s hot.

Create An Inviting Environment For Birds and Frogs – You want to welcome animals that will feed on pests such as frogs, birds and toads. Put out a bowl of water to lure them in. For birds, add some food they enjoy and give them some shelter to hide in.

Bring In Helpful Bugs – Not every bug is bad for your garden. For instance, the ladybug can help rid your garden of crop-destroying bugs. Be sure to plant food that will keep carnivore bugs living in your garden even after they’ve eaten all the bugs.
