It’s Roof Rat Season!!!!

Friendly Hartz Pest Control Employees PictureDuring the colder months, roof rats tend to cause many problems for homeowners in the Houston area, including The Woodlands, Katy and Cypress, Texas.
As the weather gets colder, these animals enter people’s homes in order to seek shelter.  Roof rats enter homes, sheds, garages, and
other structures through any opening bigger than a Quarter.  They are strong climbers and travel along power lines, fences, vines and trees.
Roof rats usually nest in trees, wood piles, debris, and dense vegetation.
Roof rats spread disease by contaminating food with urine, fecal material, or by biting people.  Indirectly they transmit disease by
fleas. Roof rats are dark black to brown in color and are about a foot to a foot and a half long.  They weigh about 5 to 9 ounces and have slender bodies.  Their droppings are long and cylindrical.

The best way to control these animals is to bait them outside where they live before they enter the home.  As trained pest control technicians can do this by placing bait stations in landscaping areas, behind pool equipment and near other areas where they might live.  It is also a good idea to trim trees to at least 4 feet from the structure.
